STEAM Initiatives

The Rome City School District works regularly to offer extracurricular coding clubs, STEAM Science Fairs at the elementary level, robotics, interdisciplinary lessons, DimensionU Math tournament, drone events, and Project Fibonacci. Currently, we work closely with the Rome Research Lab AFRL to support our robotics clubs, provide training and professional development opportunities for our teachers, and summer camps for our students.

Technology Department

We offer Technology education to all students in grades 7 and 8 as well as a variety of courses at the high school. Students in grades 7 and 8 work on problem-solving, introduction to basic tools, wood and metal work, project-based learning, robotics, digital design and production. Our high school program has multiple areas of focus: traditional woodshop and building skills, computer-assisted manufacturing, metal work, land transportation systems, electronics, and a variety of basic and advanced engineering courses. We currently have a partnership with Rochester Institute of Technology to offer Project Lead The Way courses for students to obtain college credit. We also offer a technology and robotics club the middle school level, Vex Robotics and an engineering club at the high school as well multiple opportunities for students to work with Rome Research Lab AFRL and Project Fibonacci (ANDRO). The technology department actively collaborates with both the art and music departments on a various projects throughout the school year. Students who complete our technology coursework are well-prepared to attend college or enter the workforce.
